Understanding the rules of Seven Card Stud Poker is crucial because this game is unlike any other poker gaming variant. This game does not have any community cards. Players are entrusted with the task of forming the very best five-card poker hand based on the seven cards dealt to them.
There are no blinds in Seven Card Stud poker, but there are antes. These are mandatory bets placed in the pot by each player, prior to beginning a hand. Each player is dealt 2 cards face down and 1 card face up. For the purposes of betting, the player with the lowest face-up card must make a wager equal to half the ‘bring on’ or ante bet. After this is done, betting continues in the normal sense.
In Seven Card Stud Poker, the rules clearly state that there is fixed-limit betting. In the game, players are dealt 3 more face-up poker cards. A betting round follows the addition of each and every new card. Now that 6 cards have been dealt, players who are still in the hand at this point will be dealt a 7th and final card – face down. Poker rules state that each card dealt be referred to as a street. Thus the 4th card is fourth street etcetera.
Now another round of betting will take place, after which time the showdown commences.
Where 7 Card Stud Poker differs from other poker games is that betting is based on each individual betting round with the player whose face-up cards make up the best poker hand.
Rules state that a max of 8 online players compete in any given hand, but given that only 52 cards make up the deck, players will find it impossible to continue if everyone goes through to seventh street. The good news is that players can use the community cards in the center of the table.
