Fans of Texas Hold’em poker will be chuffed with the rules of Omaha Poker. There is very little difference between these games per se and Omaha is the perfect solution to quality poker gaming. When the rules and regulations are considered, only minor variations exist. Omaha Poker has captured the hearts and minds of sophisticated poker players.
The Preflop
The 1st stage of Omaha Poker gaming is the preflop. Each player is dealt 4 cards face down. This is the rule that differentiates Omaha Poker from Texas Hold’em Poker. These face-down cards are the pocket cards. As in Hold’em games, the two players sitting directly to the dealer’s left are required to act by making ‘blind’ bets. The preflop betting round commences with the player directly to the left of the big blind.
The Flop
When the flop takes place, three cards are placed face-up in the middle of the poker table. These community cards can be used by players in any way that forms the best possible poker hand. Betting rounds follow – starting with the 1st player to the dealer’s left. The rules are essentially easy-to-understand.
The Turn
This is the 4th community card that is dealt. It too begins with the first player to the dealer’s left who is still in the hand.
The River
This is the 5th and final community card and it heralds the final betting round.
The Showdown
For poker players remaining in the game, the showdown is the litmus test. The winner is that player with the best poker hand. In compiling the best five card poker hand, a player is required to use 3 community cards and 2 of the 4 pocket cards. This is a tough Omaha rule to grasp. But in the online version of Omaha Poker, the winner is quickly and easily announced.
