More Than 200 Players Head To Day 1 Of Sydney Poker Tournament

Sydney's Main Event has got off to a promising start

Sydney's hosting of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Main Event got off to a great start today (March 22nd) as more than 200 players turned up to compete.

Of the 209 players to register and begin the day, some 86 were still in contention when Day 1a came to a close, reports Poker Network.

Gary Benson was top of the pile with a huge 193,000 chips, some way ahead of his nearest rival, Jean Pierre Besancon with 138,500.

Benson managed to make his way through the field relatively undetected, as he sat on the far side of the Star Casino and accumulated chips.

As the day wore on, he began to win more and more pots, until eventually he had established a dominant position in the event.

Third place is currently held by Benjamin Zhang (114,200 chips), while he is followed by Cathal Shine (101,100), Carmelo Auditore (94,000) and Sam Capra (£93,300).ADNFCR-16000716-ID-801561244-ADNFCR
