Social media has been one of the fastest growing aspects of the internet, so it was only a matter of time before gaming companies realised the potential to tap into the global market of enthusiastic gamblers via the sites.
And it seems that that time is now, with Poker Network revealing that 888 has teamed up with Facebook to offer users in the UK real money games, starting from 2013.
While there is no suggestion that this will be extended to Australia, if the project enjoys some substantial success then it could well be implemented elsewhere depending on how the service goes down in Britain.
"We are working closely with Facebook on this launch, ensuring we introduce the best of both worlds of real-money and social gaming," said 888 COO Itai Frieberger.
As we wait to see how UK audiences receive the 888 Facebook function, it seems that the future for online gambling could lie alongside the world of social media.
