Ray Gebrale has taken control of the Star Poker Summer Series Main Event in Sydney after a strong showing on Day 1a of the prestigious tournament.
A total of 46 players headed into the Sports Theatre for the first flight of the tournament, including big names such as former APPT Sydney champions Grant Levy and Jonathan Karamalikis and World Series Of Poker Europe bracelet winner Andrew Hinrichsen.
The day's format saw blind levels go up every 90 minutes, helping to reduce the field to 35 players within just seven-and-a-half hours of play.
Levy will not be joining them after he crashed out, but Gebrale had no such problems as he cruised through thanks to his aggressive style of play which allowed him to finish as the chip leader with a total of 122,200 chips.
The remaining players will go through to the second day's play with those who come through from the second flight, which is expected to attract a larger number of competitors.
