The second event in Season 5 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) has come to an end in Auckland, and it is local player Geoff Smith who has won the Main Event after the shortest final in ANZPT history.
Smith's victory makes it two wins out of two for Kiwi players in the latest instalment of the ANZPT following Paul Hockin's win in Melbourne, meaning that Australian poker stars are yet to make a substantial impact at the felt.
Nine players arrived at the table expecting to play out a long final, but it turned out to be the quickest one that the ANZPT has ever witnessed as the competitors fell thick and fast, leaving Smith and Sebastian Martineau alone in the last two.
And it was Smith's skills that eventually told as he put Martineau to the sword to pick up the ANZPT Auckland crown and walk home with the NZ$80,502 prize money.
