The first stop on the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Season 5 calendar has reached its conclusion, with New Zealand's Paul Hockin walking away from the Main Event with the title.
Hockin had to overcome eight Australian rivals in the final, and held his nerve to eventually claim the crown and walk away from Melbourne with $101,275 in prize money for his efforts.
Among the players who Hockin managed to get the better of was Ashley Warner - the man who had held the chip lead going into the final.
Despite Warner holding the advantage when proceedings got underway, Hockin was able to overturn the deficit as he compiled an intimidating stack of his own, and a chop deal was made with three players remaining.
Warner eventually had to settle for second place, but took away the biggest sum of prize money - $130,000 - under the terms of the deal.
Michael Guzzardi was the last of the remaining three to share in the chop and took home a total of $112,000.
