Australian poker star Nurlan Boobekov finished top of the chip chart on day 1C of the APPT Snowfest in New Zealand.
A number of big name professionals, including Aussie pro Daniel Chevalier, have made the trip to Queenstown's SkyCity Casino for the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) event.
However, it was Boobekov who made the early running on the third instalment of day one and ended the day with a sizeable chip lead after building a 69,200-strong stack.
Gary Retallick was the Aussie's closest rival with 55,650, while John Shin rounded out the top three with 47,825 chips.
Kristian Lunardi, Aaron Benton, Craig Blight and Jarred Graham also performed well on the first day and will look to carry this success on to the tournament's latter stages.
Meanwhile, the opening event of the Asian Poker Tour's Macau 2012 Main Event was won by Scottish poker ace Gordon Huntly for HK$109,000.
