Aussies looking to stack up at WSOP

Australian poker stars have so far failed to land a WSOP win in 2102

Australian poker fans will be hoping that the country's poker stars can up their game in the second half of the 2012 World Series of Poker (WSOP).

The country's stars have managed five cashes so far but no one has gone onto to land one of the WSOP's coveted bracelets.

Warwick Mirzkinian has landed the country's biggest pay day so far after securing a cheque for $162,443 in the $5,000 No Limit Hold'em Mixed Max event.

Julian Powell, Christopher Moutzouris, Justin Shelton, Kelvin Beattie have also cashed, but with the WSOP heading down under for the first time next year at least one of them will want to fly the flag by winning an event outright.

As it stands, Aussie Joe Hachem - who is now working as an ambassador for the Asian Poker Tour - is the only Aussie to be crowned WSOP champion.

The card ace recently described the news of the WSOP heading to the Crown casino in Melbourne as a "dream come true".
