The news that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) will be heading to Australia next year has been welcomed by poker pro Joe Hachem.
It was announced earlier this week that the world's leading poker tour will make its Aussie debut in April next year at Melbourne's Crown Casino and Hachem has described the news as "a dream come true".
The poker star is now an ambassador for the Asian Poker Tour and said the WSOP's presence in the region will give its poker image a huge boost.
"It's thrilling to think the WSOP is coming to Australian soil," the former world champion said.
"I know firsthand what a life-changing moment winning the WSOP gold bracelet was and how it served as a catalyst for the growth of poker in Australia and Asia. It will be a dream come true to host a worldwide poker event such as this at Crown. I can't wait."
Crown Casino was chosen as the WSOP venue after demonstrating its ability with the popular Aussie Millions series.
