APT backs Chinese poker event

This year's China Poker Carnival will be sponsored by the APT

A number of poker pros from the Asia-Pacific region could be tempted to head to China for a high-profile tournament later this year.

That is after the Asian Poker Tour, of which Joe Hachem is now a key ambassador, announced that it is to sponsor the China Poker Carnival (CPC) 2012.

The CPC is the only officially recognised poker tournament in China and as such it is likely to attract some of the biggest names in poker.

Around 300 contestants are expected to head to the MGM Sanya Resort in Hainan, China, from 18th-22nd March 2012 for the event.

Jeff Mann, chief executive officer of the APT, said: "We have had a close working relationship CPC for the past two years and are delighted that we can now formalise our arrangement and contribute a lot more to the continued success of this event.

"The event will be an APT-sanctioned tournament and will be run to international poker standards."
